SCA Refund for customers

All Personal Current Account customers will receive an 11.5% refund of any €6 monthly account maintenance fees paid between 1st July 2021 and 31st October 2021.

    Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) gives consumers an extra layer of protection when shopping online as they can use their mobile banking app to approve certain payments. SCA has been introduced in banks across Europe as part of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2).

  • 2. Why are you writing to me about it?

    We are writing to apologise for a delay in the rollout of Strong Customer Authentication and to advise that, to acknowledge this delay, you will receive a refund of a portion of your bank charges before the end of the year.

  • 3. Why was there a delay?
    We were working towards the full implementation date of 30th June but it took longer to introduce than anticipated. We are very sorry for our failure to introduce SCA on time, and we are now contacting customers about this.
  • 4. Is Strong Customer Authentication in place now?
    Yes, Strong Customer Authentication is now in place for all Bank of Ireland customers.
  • 5. What proportion of my fees are you refunding?
    All Personal Current Account customers will receive an 11.5% refund of any €6 monthly account maintenance fees paid between 1st July 2021 and 31st October 2021.
  • 6. Do I need to take any action?
    You do not have to take any action, and the refund will be paid directly to your account in December.

Business Current Account customers who made a transaction will receive a 10% refund of the automated debit transaction fees paid between 20th May 2021 and 20th November 2021.
