Bank of Ireland invests €20 million to enhance business lending

  • Business Borrowing Hub application can take as little as three minutes
  • Over 12,800 applications totalling more than €433 million

2 June 2026: Bank of Ireland has invested €20 million in a range of improvements to make it faster and easier for business customers to access finance.

The enhanced service – delivered through a Business Borrowing Hub – has made it easier to apply for lending, reduced the time it takes to assess applications, and cut waiting times for funds for existing business customers. The application form can take as little as three minutes from start to finish, with credit decisions within one hour in some cases, and cash in customer accounts can happen within 24 hours for straightforward applications.

Since its introduction last year, over 12,800 applications totalling more than €433 million have been made through the Business Borrowing Hub by small business and agriculture customers. A second release coming in Q4 this year will increase the transaction limit to €1 million (currently €120,000) for existing business customers.

Susan Russell, CEO, Retail Ireland, Bank of Ireland, said “As leading lender, our ambition is to make business lending simpler, faster, and more intuitive. By doing so, we empower business owners to focus on what truly matters – building, running, and growing their businesses – while strengthening the trusted relationships we share with them. Through continued investment and the dedication of our colleagues, we are delivering meaningful improvements to the business customer experience.”
