Bank of Ireland ATM upgrade programme reaches 30 branches to date with 118 devices replaced
29 August 2025 – Bank of Ireland today provided an update on its nationwide ATM upgrade programme, with 118 new devices now installed across 30 branch locations. This rollout is part of the Bank’s €60 million investment in its branch network and ATM infrastructure.
To date, 71 internal and 47 external ATMs have been installed, replacing older machines with state-of-the-art technology that improves customer experience and operational efficiency.
This upgrade is part of a broader initiative to replace approximately 650 ATMs across all Bank of Ireland branches by the end of 2027. The new fleet offers:
- Greater cash processing capacity
- Over 50% reduction in energy usage
- Cash recycling functionality, allowing deposited cash to be reused for withdrawals
- Accessibility enhancements, including high-contrast screens and voice-guided transactions via earphone jack for visually-impaired customers
Commenting on the progress, Susan Russell, CEO of the Bank’s Retail Ireland division, said:
“We’re pleased to report strong momentum in our ATM upgrade programme, with 118 new devices now operational across 30 branches. These new ATMs are more efficient, more accessible, and better equipped to meet the needs of our customers. This investment reflects our commitment to modernising our infrastructure and ensuring reliable access to cash across the country.”
The rollout continues, with around 50 additional devices planned for installation at approximately 15 locations before year-end.
