Bank of Ireland has marked the first anniversary of its successful partnership with An Post with a milestone one million transactions processed at post offices.

The joint venture between Bank of Ireland and An Post enables customers to carry out a range of banking services at local post offices nationwide, with over 100,000 transactions a month now being recorded. Over the year, 59% of all transactions were to lodge cash, 34% to withdraw cash, and 6% to lodge cheques.

Bank of Ireland customers can make cash (notes and coin) lodgements and withdrawals, as well as cheque lodgements at over 900 post offices serving communities across the country. Transaction volumes indicate that both personal and business customers are availing of the post office locations since they were first introduced in October 2021.

Commenting on the one million transaction milestone, Susan Russell, Director, Retail Ireland said: “It’s great to see Bank of Ireland’s partnership with An Post flourish since it first commenced just over a year ago. With a million transactions in just 12 months, the partnership has been an attractive one for many of our customers particularly for cash services. We look forward to building on this early success in the period ahead.”

Debbie Byrne, Managing Director of An Post Retail said: “Reaching this milestone of one million transactions underlines our success in extending the range of services customers can access at their local post office. Our strategy of making post offices a key location for everyday banking is a perfect fit for this partnership with Bank of Ireland. We will build on this partnership to support our customers and communities who rely on the ability to use and deposit cash daily.”

The large footprint of post office locations (900+), complemented by Bank of Ireland’s 169 branch network, allows customers carry out their banking requirements in almost 1,100 locations around the country.
