Bank of Ireland has announced an exciting partnership with the CoderDojo Foundation with ambitious plans to host Dojos in more than 50 local communities using Bank of Ireland branches nationwide. With this partnership Bank of Ireland and CoderDojo will facilitate kids and young people coming together to experience the world of coding & technology in relaxed, fun, local community environments.
Speaking at the launch Mary Moloney from CoderDojo said: “Currently CoderDojo is playing a vital role in addressing the technology and digital skills gap. Coding is a new literacy and every child should have the opportunity to develop these 21st century skills which are of crucial importance to succeed in an increasingly connected world. Europe is expected to face a shortfall of up to 900,000 ICT jobs by 2020. The CoderDojo and Bank of Ireland partnership is crucial for us in meeting a real Irish need by providing clubs at which young people can learn how to create with technology in a fun, high energy, social environment”.
The aim of the partnership is for Bank of Ireland to support the CoderDojo movement across Ireland addressing the digital skills gap and further encouraging young people to learn about technology and how to code. Given its unrivalled reach into communities across the country, Bank of Ireland is uniquely positioned to support and drive the development of technology skills by young people and to support the objectives of CoderDojo in local communities.
Laura Lynch, Head of Youth Banking at Bank of Ireland added: “This partnership is so important to us as it truly supports our young customers of today and tomorrow with skills that are important for their futures. This is a national community initiative and we are delighted to have partnered with CoderDojo in encouraging as many young people as possible to discover their potential. The Bank of Ireland team are thrilled to host the Dojos in their local branches and act as mentors, we have a number of Dojo’s already up and running and have plans to launch many more over the coming months. Bank of Ireland Dojo’s are all inclusive and we invite participation from all backgrounds and technological abilities”.
