Bank of Ireland Catherine Judge Memorial Award calls for entries

Today the Bank of Ireland Catherine Judge Memorial Award 2016 launched its call for entries.

The award, which is now in its tenth year, is inviting applications from talented young musicians who wish to continue their music education at third level.

Applicants must have achieved Grade 8 in their chosen instrument (or voice) and will commence the next stage of their studies in autumn 2016. The 2016 winner will receive a bursary of €6,800 to assist them with the costs of undertaking their third level music studies and their nominated school or music society will receive €1,400.

Applications should be made online at www.boicjma.com by 11th January 2016.

World renowned pianist and founder of Camerata Ireland, Barry Douglas will return as chair of the judging panel having previously chaired when the award was inaugurated ten years ago.

Mairéad Hickey, winner of the award in 2015 said: ‘I think that the Bank of Ireland Catherine Judge Memorial Award is a fantastic way to encourage and support young musicians. In addition to fees and accommodation, there are many extra costs when you decide to pursue music as a career and this award has been a huge help to me.’

The Grand Final will take place on Saturday 16th April 2016 in the Great Hall in Queen’s University, Belfast.
