Bank of Ireland embarks on second Wealth Academy

Private Banking seeks to differentiate with superior service to clients

Bank of Ireland Private Banking recently commenced its second wealth academy programme aimed at providing an excellent foundation for participants who wish to pursue careers in wealth management. Seven students are included in the current six-month programme, recruited from diverse career backgrounds and an equally diverse mix of qualifications, including a lawyer and veterinary surgeon.

The Bank of Ireland Private Banking Academy was established in 2006 for the purpose of accelerating the development of exceptional client relationship managers via an intensive, full-time, six-month training programme aimed at enhancing their skills, knowledge and expertise and positioning them to become their clients’ principle investment advisor. The programme was created in consultation with Professor John Murray, Chair in Business Studies, Trinity College and is modelled on a business school concept. The Academy Programme Director is John Quilliam, former Trinity MBA Programme Director and current Director of the Trinity M Sc International Business Programme.

According to David Lowen, Director, Bank of Ireland Private Banking: “The academy was set up to provide an excellent foundation for our front line staff to ensure that we offer a differentiated service to our private clients. With the growth in wealth in Ireland and as the leading private Bank in the country, we wanted to take a leadership position in the wealth management arena including offering the best people possible to our clients. The programme is an excellent founding for their learning and forms part of their ongoing learning process.

“Last year was the first year that we delivered this programme and the split was 50/50 between lectures and work placements within the business. We have made some refinements to the programme this year following feedback and observations on the mix of content. We are confident that the academy produces more effective relationship managers earlier than the typical recruitment process”, added David Lowen.
