Is Google Pay safe to use?

Yes. When you shop at a merchant, Google Pay doesn't send your actual credit or debit card number with your payment. Instead a virtual account number is used to represent your account information – so your card details stay safe.

When you use Google Pay for the first time we may send you a security code to use to confirm that you want to add your credit or debit card to your Google Pay Wallet. You should never give that code to anyone else regardless of who they say they are or why they say they need it.
