Standing Orders and Direct Debits on a closed account

Before you submit a Close Account Request, please make sure any pending Direct Debits and/or Standing Orders that are due on your account are cancelled. The reason for this is because once you send a Close Account Request instruction and it is processed, your account will be blocked straight away.

This means any pending transactions may be rejected.

You can use the Account Switching process if you want to move your Standing Orders and Direct Debits to another bank in the Republic of Ireland.

This means you can transfer over:

  • any Direct Debits,
  • any Standing Orders, and
  • any credit account balance you have on this account.

You'll also have the option to close your Bank of Ireland current account when you do this.
