Cross-border handling fee when using a debit card abroad

A cross-border handling fee can apply when you use your Debit Card for purchases in a foreign currency, or use an cash machine* to withdraw foreign currency. The fee varies depending on how the card is used see details below.

Debit Card (ATM) 3.5% of transaction value. Minimum €3.17, Maximum €11.43 per transaction
Debit Card purchases (including Contactless transactions) 2% of transaction value.  Maximum €11.43 per transaction

*There is no fee for using your Debit Card in a Bank of Ireland ATM in Northern Ireland when making a sterling cash withdrawal. You will be charged a cross-border handling fee if you use any other ATMs in Northern Ireland.
