How do I change my name on my accounts?

You can change your name on your personal accounts by bringing original identification documents to any branch of Bank of Ireland.

  • Ensure you have the correct document to amend your name. Bring the original/certified copies of documents only, we will make a copy of them and return them to you before you leave the branch
Accepted Name Change to: Identification Documents required
Married Name Certified copy of your Marriage Certificate
Original Name Certified evidence of previous name. Any one of:
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Separation Agreement/Divorce Decree
  • Certificate of Naturalisation
Name Request by Deed Poll Certified evidence of Name Change Approval. Any one of:
  • Passport
  • Deed Poll
  • Once in branch a member of staff will complete a Personal Customer Identification Form with you, and then take a copy of relevant identification document. You will take your original documents home.
  • If you require your cards to be issued again with your changed name you will receive these 5-7 working days after your name changes on your account. Your cards will remain active until you activate your new card.
