How do I estimate the rebuilding costs?

You should take into account the size of your home, the fittings, and the materials used in its construction.

Estimate the size

An easy method is to multiply the width by the length of each floor to get the square feet. Then, multiply this figure by a rebuilding cost per square foot.

You should also allow for kitchen fittings, wardrobes, garages, domestic outbuildings and other fixtures.

Materials

Make note of the type of material you use or any of the following which may add to the cost of rebuilding

  • The cost of clearing the site and removing the debris
  • The location of your house
  • Any special architectural features

Read a guide on how to calculate the rebuilding cost on the Chartered Surveyors website, www.scsi.ie
