Why didn’t I get a message about my payment abroad?
You won’t get this message in the following situations:
- If the debit or credit card is used in a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) where the currency is Euro.
- These EEA countries are: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
- The debit or credit card is used to either:
- make a payment (point of sale or online) in a non-EEA currency, such as US Dollars or,
- make an ATM withdrawal in a non-EEA currency, or,
- for transactions made in Euro anywhere in the world.
- If you use a business debit or credit card you won't get the message for any payments made.
- If you use your debit or credit card at a machine where there might be a delay before the funds come out of your account.
- Also, if you are asked if you want to withdraw or pay in Euro or the local money, and you choose Euro, Bank of Ireland won't send you a message. Some shops and ATMs will give you the option to change the payment to Euro when you pay. This change (conversion) is done by the retailer, shop or the ATM, not by Bank of Ireland. So, you won't get a message from us.
