    Bank of Ireland global markets ends year on award winning note

    Bank of Ireland Global Markets today, Monday 20th December announced that the inaugural Bank of Ireland Mortgage Bank Asset Covered Security (ACS) issue has been awarded Euro Bond of the Year and Covered Bond of the Year by the prestigious financial publication International Financing Review (IFR). The awards recognise the success of the ACS issue which was completed in September 2004. The Bank of Ireland ACS was the first mortgage security issued by any Irish financial institution under the Asset Covered Securities Act 2001 and the largest issue of its kind raising €2bn. It was sold to over 130 investors in 23 countries.

    According to Mick Sweeney, Chief Executive Bank of Ireland Global Markets;
    'To put the awards in some context there was in excess of c. €1 trillion of issuance comprising over 2,500 deals in the Euro bond market in 2004. The Jumbo Covered Bond market was made up of approximately €100 billion of issuance, or just over 100 deals.

    The complexity of the ACS roadshow, size of the orderbook, depth and spread of investors and performance of the transaction in the secondary market enhanced our suitability for these awards. To have won both Euro Bond and Covered Bond awards is testament to the work and professionalism which was put into this transaction by the teams in Global Markets, the mortgage bank and Bank of Ireland in general. We are delighted that this has been formally recognised by the international financial community,' he concluded.

    The awards are granted following independent research by IFR, which is a leading publication amongst the international investment and commercial banking community.
    The awards celebrate professional excellence in the banking industry and recognise those institutions that have done the most over the last twelve months to further industry standards. Previous award winners include, HBOS, KfW and Landesbank Baden Wuertemburgische (LBW).
