Business on Line
"Trojans" are software that can collect information from your system and transmit it elsewhere. Trojans can be put on to your PC without your knowledge by opening email attachments which originate from unknown sources, accessing unknown websites, downloading and installing software from unknown websites or installing unapproved software.
Up-to-date anti virus software is your best defence against Trojan viruses, always ensure that your PC or operating system has industry standard, up-to-date, supported and licensed anti-virus software in place. Also consider using a firewall (refer to your IT support or PC provider for guidance).
'Phishing' is an increasingly common type of Internet fraud. Customers receive an email that purports to be from Bank of Ireland or another financial institution, which redirects them to a hoax website that looks similar to a legitimate website. It then asks for 'verification' or 're-submission' of confidential banking information such as account numbers, User ID and secure passwords.
DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION WHATSOEVER.
These emails are fraudulent and are NOT from Bank of Ireland. Bank of Ireland NEVER requests customer information in this manner.
What you should do if you receive one of these fraudulent emails:
- Do not click any links
- Do not open any attachments
- Do not input any personal/account information
- Forward the email to business.online@boimail.com immediately
- Then delete it without clicking on any links or attachments
If any details are inadvertently disclosed, please contact Bank of Ireland between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, on:
